(Rec. 7.40 =p-Ki-) London, July 21. The question of Japanese competition was raised in the House of Commons by Mr. -T. Levy who decldred that it was a menace to the eoloriies. Two valuable ' British industries silk and cotton, were being killed by the low standard of wages and the conditions ef life in Japan. Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister, Secretary of State.for the Colonies, replying, said that in conjunction with the Board of Trade, he was engaged in negotiations with the Japanese Government which it was hoped would be' sudcessful. J If they were not, the Government was certainly prepared to undertake whatever steps were necessary to protect British interests. Japanese competition was a- serious matter and must be dealt with as an entirely separate proposition'.
