. — By Telegraph — Copyrlght) .
Toronto, June. 17. Bobby Pearce to-day signed a contract to meet Ted Phelpbs, the world professional seulling champion, in a three mile match race here on September 1. The. winner is to receive a purse of 1000 dollars. Pearce is guaranteed 2500 dollars regardless of the result. The race is to be held on Lake Ontario over the Canadian National Exhibition regatta course. Pearce said it is not the lure of the prize money that is leading hina into the professional ranks. "There is something in my blood," he continued, "which demands that I enter further competition in an endeavour to attain the last remaining title open to me. I want to he able to pull down the course just a little bit in front of Phelps, whom I regard as a very great sculler."
