WEEKLY MEETING OF THE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE The weekly meeting of the management committee of the Rotorua Rugby Sub-Union was held in the Citizens' Ciub last evening, the. president, Mr. T. S. Robertson, presiding. A letter was received from the secretary, Hamilton Rugby Union declining a match with Rotorua on July 22, but stating that it was prepared to visit Rotorua at a later date. Advice was received that the junior representatives had a bye in the Clarke Cup, placing them in the final against the winners of the Mortrinsville-Waipa game to be played on July 22. A deputation, representing Te Arawa Tribal Club, waited upon the union. Mr. H. Tai Mitchell acted as spokesman and stated that on behalf of the tribal team he had been instructed to ask the union what share of the gates for August 5 it was prepared to grant them in view of the fact that a match had been arranged between the Rotorua and Takapuna Grammar Schools for that date. He stated that the tribal team desired to assist the Rotorua Rugby Union in every way possible, but as the club had been put to considerable expense in travelling to Taranaki to bring back the Tainui Cup he asked the union to consider the great draw this cup meant to Rotorua. Mr. Robertson replied that it was unfortunate that the school match should fall on this date owing to the Hunt Club using the grounds on the 29 th. Mr. L. Clarke said that the tribal team was to be congratulated on their courage in travelling 250 miles to bring back the cup and shouldering the expense without any assistance from the union. He moved that 75 per cent. be paid to the tribal team and 25 per cent. to the union, all expenses incurred to come out of the tribal club's share. It was decided, on the amendment of M. A. G. Cottrell, that the gate should be shared on the same basis as the Waikato game, the union to receive 20 per cent. Mr. Mitchell thanked the union for treating the tribal club so generousiy' It was decided to commence the Mitchell Shield competitions next Saturday. Arising out of a lengthy discussion regarding the playing of both. the school and tribal matches at 3 o'clock on August 5, several members expressed the opinion that the public wished to see both games and that the Takapuna-Rotorua school match should be played as a curtain-raiser to the tribal match.
