: (Press Assn. — 1
THE EMPIRE GAMES CHANCE
By Telegraph — Oxpyright).
I Wellington, Monday. i In mentioning to-day that the council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, was cabling its congratulations to Lovelock on his achievement in setting a new world's mile record, the secretary, Mr. L. A. Tracy, said that he attributed Lovelock's success in the first case to the first-class competition he had had in England and in the second place to expert coaching. Although Lovelock's achievement was not altogether unexpected in view of his wonderful performances last season, it was nevertheless a source of great satisf action to the New Zealand association to find this sterling athlete achieving so great an honour and bringing fresh laurels to New Zealand. It was the hope of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association that Lovelock would retain his form for the Empire games i,o be held in London next year.
