WINOOKA'S CONDITION
SATISFACTORY TRAINING REPORTS ARE ISSUED NOT YET AT HIS BEST (Rec. 7.0 p.m.) San Francisco, July 17 Winooka's training is continuing satisfactorily and the Australian horse is trotting and galloping daily. He will have a trial run on Saturday. However, several questions are concerning the owners of Winooka. Firstly, the question of a national race has. been raised but fears have
been expressed by the trainer, Polson, that the horse will not be at his best. Polson says that he would like another two weeks' preparation in order to feel safer. He. points out that the defeat of Winooka on his first appearance would be disastrous to the American invasion. Winooka's hackers have been offered a race on the Gersham course early in August. It is understood, however, that. the horse' s backers will refuse the race because of the short circumference of the track.
