WOMEN'S INSITUTE RECEIVE VISIT FROM SISTElR ORGANIS ATION S

The Waiotahi Institute was "at home"' on July 12 and entertained visitors from sdx sister institutes. A good programme was given and was thoroughly enjoyed by all, as also was the lavish' afternoon tea. The hall was prettily arranged with tables and spring flowers. The president, Mrs. Jeffery, welcomed the visitors in a few happy words, then all settled down to enjoy the programme. Mrs. White and Mrs. Burke each contributed songfS, which were enthusiastically encored. Mrs. Burke and Master Malcolm Burke sang a duet. Mrs. Debreceny gave a humorous recitdtion. There were two competitions, "Collecting signatures" was won by Mrs. Hedley, while three tied witb 19 points in "The Musical Wedding" and Mrs. Pilkington won the draw. "The Arab's Farewell to His Steed," given by four members of the institute caused much amusement. Mrs. Btfrke played "The Arab's Farewell" as the performers came forward to take their places. Mi*s. Grant and Miss A. Abbot, represented the steed, the head being a lifelike, painted mask of stiffened calico, complete with mane, arid movable ears and jaw. Miss J. Martin was the stranger and Mrs. Toone the Araib. Several small pupils, from the Waiotahi school presented nursery rhymes in character. There was a display table where novel and interesting articles could he seen, and a stall for the benefit of the institute. Hostesses were. Mesdames J. Andersonj W. Looney, Malcolm and MacKinnon. Each memiher of the institute contributed to the tea.
