VARIETY EVENING
ST. JOHN'S WINTER CLUB HOLDS SECOND MONTHLY MEETING The second rnonthly meeting oi the St. John's Winter Club was held on Tuesday evening in St. John's Hall, and toolc the form of a variety evening. An excellent and varied programme had been prepared by the executive and their efforts wcve rewarded by a large attendance. During the evening, items were givon as follows: — Solo, Miss Jean Worrall; recitations, Miss Treacy Johnson and Mis: Valmai Musgrave; playette, se.nio girls' Bible class; novelty itern, intei mediate girls' Bible class. A very interesting lecturette wa: given by Mr. W. G. Harwood, who spoke on the manufacture and ingred ients of toilet requisites such as fac: powders, face creams, scents, etc. Mr. Harwood said he had grea> difficulty in chosing a subject to sui* the varied nature of the audience the majority .of whom, he had been told, Would be of the. female sex. In the course of his speech, he provoked much interest and no little amusement by giving a recipe for dark hair. The Rev. J. C. Young thanlced Mr. Harwood for his very interesting lecture. A novelty game was won by Mrs. Locke and Miss Cartwright. A lighi supper was served during the evening, and a most enjoyable programme was brought to a close by the sing ing of Auld Lang Syne. The next meeting of the club wih be on August 8, and will take the form of a mock court.
