A very wide circle of friends will regret to hear of the death of Mr. Henry Hill, for many years inspector of schools in Hawke's Bay. fie had reached the ripe age of 84 years and up till the time of his last illness had retained a full measure of mental and bodily vigour. He came te New Zealand in 1873 and in the following year was appointed an inspector, a position which he held with distinction until the time of his retirement in 1914. He was held in affectionate regard and esteem by ,the whole of the teaching profession and many Hawke's Bay children who have now grown into men and wo-

men will rememoer mspecrox xiin with genuine pleasure. He was a man of great mental attainments, generous to a fault and upright' in his dealings with his fellowmeh. His enthusiasm and energy were remarkable and he was a prodigous worker in the realms of geology and_ nature study. He contested the Napier seat against Mr. Vigor Brown just before the war and for a term was m'ayor of Napier. Of recent years he has spent a good deal of his time at Taupo where he had a pretty home on the shores of the lake.
