TRADE WITH EAST
MAINTENANCE OF MEAT STANDARD, URGED ON GOVERNMENT Wellington, Friday. The New Zealand Farmers' Union Conference adopted' a Southland remit advocating the consideration of the possibility of developing trade with India and the East. Another remit which was carried was as follows: — "That in view of the urgent necessity of maintaining the high position which our meat occupies, particularly on the British market, and of further improving the quality of our meat products, this conference urges upon the Government the necessity for prohibiting the export of anything but the best quality mutton and lamb of first and se.con.d grade.
