PROMINENT MAORIS REFUSE TO PLAY

Gisborne, Friday. The refusal of George Nepia to play fullback in the East Coast v. Poverty Bay match for the Barry Cup o,n Saturday has caused consternation in foothall circles. In a letter to the secretary of the East Coast Rugby Union, Nepia said that he would not he ahle to play because the loss of time on his fp,rm would cost him too much. Immediately after Nepia's announcement, Wanoa, a Maori All Black, and forward player, notified the selectors that he was not available. The selectors immediately announced the new players, with additional emergencies. More is expected to be heard of the matter} at the Rugby Union meeting on Saturday night.
