Ari absolu'te denial that Bobby Pearce has entered into any agreejnerit either writteri or personal to turn professiorial in order to row against Phelps for the professional sculling title, was made on Monday ; by Mr. Bellwood Hughes, Sports Director of the Cariadian Natiorial Exhibition. Mr. Hughes said that he had riever been in a position to make Pearce any coricrete offer as there had not been an opppnerit for him: As f ar as he knew, the Australian had nevei dorie anything to jeopardise his amateur status." The only thing that he had to go on, *said Mr. Hughes, was : that when the proposal to row for the t'itle was put up to Pearce, he re- ■ marked, "some day I might turn professional." ...
