new zealand team GENEROUS HELP OFFERED TO FINANCE THE TRIP HIGH STANDARD DEMANDED

— By Telegraph — Cojiyright).

Wellington, Monday. A further step toward sending a New Zealand team to the Empire Games to be held in England in l934 was taken by the council of 'the New Zealand Amateur Athletic -Association to-nigfct. It was decided to ask all centres to appoint their nominees for the games. Word wa's received from the New Zealand Olympic Games Association that no assistance could be given by it in finaneing the trip as its fundshad been heavily oyerdr.awn in order to send a team to the recent Olympic Games. "The people of the United Kingdom seem generously prepared to foot part of the bill for sending the i team away," said Mr. R. W. McVilly (chairman) when referring to an offer of £1000 toward steamer passenges. He thought that New Zealand would get better results by :sending a team Home than by trying to have games in New Zealand or Aifstralia. "I say at once that even in five or 10 years' time, from a financial point of view alone, it will be out of the question to hold the games in New ' Zealand." 'said Mr. McVilly. He added that the council would not accept the nomination of any athlete who would not do credit to the country's sport. He could say quite definitely that there would he no women in the next team.
