WAIKATO MEETING LADY CORONADO & CIMARRON EACH WIN TWO RACES WIND-UP OF SEASON
Hamilton, Saturday. The 1932-33 trotting season in the North Island was brought to a close at Claudelands to-day when the Waikato Trotting Club staged its extra winter meetinig in dull weather. Lady Coronado formerly from Waverley won the Cup and Kaipaki Hand'icap and Cimarron won the Ruakura and Eureka Handicaps. Good Tote Turnover The tote turnover was £10,5911 for the day compared with £8951 for the summer meetinig a rise of £1640L Detailed results: — ' NOVICE HANDICAP, One mile and a quarter. Worthy Light Opens Account Anthony's Gift and Bingen Chief failed to strike a gait in the Novice Handicap and Jester led Kia Kaha, Thora Thorpe, Bonnie Direct and Our Summer. Past the stands Kia Kaha had up to Jester with Bonnie Direct, Bingen Chief and Our Summer following. Jester was still in command at the turn from- Bonnie Direct, Worthy Chief, Our Summer, Bingen Chief and Worthy Light a.nd in the run home Worthy Light unwound a great run to beat Bonnie Direct by a short neck with Jester next followed by Bingen Chief, Our Summer and Worthy Chief. Half length; i length. Times: 3.51, 3.57 1-5, 3.49 2-5, 3.54. Wiriwhata Wins Again Pearl Parrish led out from the start at which Nelson Pirate, Autumn Lu and Town Guard were slow to get away. When the field had settled down Pearl Parrish led Gala Day, Rose Marble, Golden Huia and Wiriwhata and there was not much ch'ange at the back except that Rose Marble dropped back and Nelson's Pirate and Mattie Herbilwyn came into the picture. Nelson Pirate put in a run at the top but broke up and Pearl Parrish was first to turn for home from Gala Day, Wiriwhata and Mattie Herbilwyn. Pearl Parrish wilted to a walk and Wiriwhata went on to win by ha.lf a length from the little-fancied Gala Day with Mattie Herbilwyn threequarters of a length back third. Lady Coronado Wins Cup Tommy Lawson's mare confirmed her Epsom form by winning the Cup from Kelp and Raider. She has been raced for years by Frank Heginbotham from Waverley and was leased last week going into Sid August's stable. It was a good start and when the field had settled down Guid Hairst led iRangihau, Raider, Pukemiro, Kelp, Our Peter, Realty and Lady Coronado. Realty who was favourite broke up and when a mile had been covered Guid Hairst, Kelp, Ran|gihau, Our Peter, Raider, Lady Coronado a.nd Pukemiro. Guid Hairst slowed up and Lady Coronado ran up along the back stretch to get on terms with Kelp these two carrydng the field along followed by Rangihau and Raider. Lady Coronado drew out at the bend from Kelp whom she beat by two lengths with Raider disposing of Pukemiro and Rangihau the rest pulling up. RUAKURA HANDICAP Two miles. Limit 4.57 1/1— CIMARRON, 60yds (Morrison) 1 3./2-DONEE, 24yds (F. J. Smith) 2 2/3— MAY CHENAULT, 36yds (McMillan) 3 Also: 7/6 Thora Thorpe, 5/5 Worthy Chief, limit;! 4/4 Alexis; 6/7 Peter Grattan, 24yds. Five lengths; 7 lengths. Times 4.57, 5.2, 5.5 5.6 2-5. Ciirtarron Wins Easily Though he was slow to start, Cimarron when he once struck a gait in the Ruakura Handicap gave nothing else a chance .beating Donee by five lengths (wi'th May Chenault seven •lengths away. Tryment and Jester did not face the starter and when the field had gone a couple of furlongs Worthy Chief had change from Thora Thorpe, Peter Grattan, Alexis and Cimarron. Cimarron went to the front at the back stretch on terms with Worthy Chief, Donee heading the others. In the run home Cimarron won easily and after the placed horses came Peter Grattan, Worthy Chief and Alexis. WAIKATO TROTS TE KOWHAI HANDICAP One mile and a half. Limit 3.38 2/3— MANCO, 24yds (F. J. Smith's tutelage Manco won the Te Kowhai Handicap from Wee Machine and Edna Worthy. Mythorpe was first to show out and Eleawah who broke repeatedly was pulled up. After a round had gone Mythorpe led Edna Worthy, Manco, Jackie Thorpe, Daddy Longlegs, Wee Machine and iGuid Hairst. -Edna Worthy ran to the front follorwed by Manco, Mythorpe and Jackie Thdrpe with Wee Machine coming fast. Manco just stalled off Wee Machine with Edna Worthy close up third, Guid Hairst 4th and Jackie Thorpe 5th. KAIPAKI HANDICAP Limit 2.51. One mile and a quarter. 2/2— LADY CORONADO, 36yds - (August) 1 3/3— RAIDER, limit (Julian) 2 1/1— SILVER BINGEN, 12yds (R. D. Kennerley) 3 Also: 4/5 Free Logan, 3/3 Poi (coupled with Raider); 5/4 Pukemiro, limit; 7/7 Rangihau, 12yds; 6/6 Our Pieter, 24yds. Three-quarter length; length. Times 2.57, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3 2-5. Lady Coronado's Double Despite her two seconds- penalty Lady Coronado again showed her worth to beat Raider in the Kaipaki Handicap. Free Logan struck his straps a.nd assumed command from Poi, Rangihau and Pukemiro. Silver Binigen ran up to second berth at the stand and there was not anuch change round the back bult when the home turn was reached Silver Bingen led Lady Coronadb, Pukemiro, Raider and Free Logan. Lady Coronado lasfed best to beat Raider with Silverl Bingen third, followed by Pukemiro, Free Logan and Our Peter. EUREKA HANDICAP One mile and a quarter. Limit 3.0. 1/1-CIMARRON, 36yds (I. R. Morrison) 1 6 / 6— WH AK AHIHI, 12yds (August) , 2 3/3-DONEE, limit (F. J. Smith) .... 3 Also: 7/7 Alexis, 2/2 Lady Amanda, 8/8 Peter Grattan, limit; 4/4 Stohnty, Mac, 24yds; 5/5 Edna Worthy, 48yds. Cimarron Makes It Two The final race of the present season in the North Island went to Cimarron who was penalised 24 yards for hisearlier win. That did not stop him for he defeated a surprise runner in Whakah'ihi and Dqnneie. Again he was slow to strike a gait being left fully 50 yards. Stormy Mac was the early leader from Whakahihi, Donee, Lady Amlanda and Cimarron. Whakahihi and Donee were on terms at the straight with Cimarron third but he unwound a great run to beat Whakahihi by a neck-with Donee 2h lengths back. Lady Amanda and Edna Worthy were next. .
