How They Should Be. The normal nail, according to Professor Mangin-B.althazard, is not too long, not too short, neither very wide nor very narrow and .supple, not flabby or brittle. It should be half as long as the distance to the first joint of the finger from the tip. The sides should be parallel. Slightly rosy is the right colour. It should he gently curved. It should have no spots, hollows, excrescences, or surface projections. If your nail is markedly diffei*ent from that healthy norm the professor has all sorts of worrres about your physical well-being in store for you. Troubles Told. ■Check your nails by this chart of imp erfeetions : — Too Long. — If nails are naturally very long you lack energy and may expect maladies caused by lassitude. Too Short. — Especially when flattened a.nd almost square, short nails dsdioate heart trouhle and likely •nervous prostration. Too Narrow- — Indicate a nervous state of health. Too Broad. — Tendency to irritability •and neurasthenia. Too Flat. — Your organs are sluggish. ,So are the finger-nails imbued with itell-tale signifioance. One anay still, however, contemplate one's .toe-nails with blissful equandmity.
