PARENTS' ASSOCIATION

GOOD ATTENDANCE FIRST MEETING HELD AT ROTORUA HIGH SCHOOL SCARCITY OF COMPLAINTS There was a good attendance of parents present at the first of the regular meetings of the Rotorua High School Parents' Association, held at the school last evening. The chair was occupied by the president, Mr. A. .G. Holland. Steps which had been taken by the committee in considering the proposal to erect an assembly hall at the school were reported and some discussion occurred on the question of securing the necessary funds for this purpose. As a preliminary it was decided to invite lady members of the association to organise regular bridge evenings to which other members and their friends would be invited to attend. By the imposition of a small charge the proceeds of these functions will form the neucleus of a building fund. Supper Arrangements Some discussion took place regarding supper arrangements at the general meetings of the association, a suggestion by Mr. Harwood that he would undertake the control of these arrangements and provide certain girls to prepare it, did not meet with approval from a section of the. ladies present, it being stated that the girls had homework to do and should not be required to go out at night. In view of this opposition Mr. R. H. Jones suggested that a list of those ladies prepared to undertake the duty should be prepared, certain members to undertake arrangements each meeting. However, opposition to Mr. Harwood's offer was withdrawn when he explained that the same girls would not be required to attend each evening and that for many reasons this system would prove the most workable. Parents were then invited to place any complaints or suggestions before the headmaster, but few were forthcoming and these were answered to the satisfaction of the questioners. It was decided that the next meeting of the association would be held on Wednesday, July 26, and it is possible that at this meeting Mr. E. Earle Vaile will address parents on "Farming as a Vocation." The chairman appealed t.o those present to attend this meeting and invited them each to bring a frie.nd. During the evening the headmaster Mr. W. G. Harwood, gave an interesting address on "Occupational Opportunities and Requirements," a full report of which will appear in to-mor~ row's "Post." Solo and duet items by Miss K. Goudie and Master H. S'teele received much appreciation from those present and as a conclusion to the evening a very enjoyable supper was served, Mr. E. T. Johnson proposing a motion of thanks to the ladies and girls who had attended to the arrangements.
