ALIGNING HOLES

It sometimes occurs that, when assembling! some parts of the cai*, two holes through which a bolt has to pass, cannot easily be aligned. It is often possihle, however, to pull the holes into alignment in the following manner. A bolt of suitable sixe, about i-in longer than the required length, is taken and on the surplus part of the thread a flat surface about l-in long, at an angle to the axis of the bolt, is filed. It will then be possihle to introduce the bolt and a turn with a spanner followed with a sharp tap' with a hammer will knock the bolt through. Care should be taken not to hit the bolt too hard or the thread may be stripped. The surplus length can then be removed with a hacksaw.
