PETITION SIGNED BY 4000 FOLK The: plea-of Joseph Cook, 'a 70-year-old Russi'an Pole, that hie might ''he allowed to spend th'a remainder'o'f his life with his family at Hull (England) was granted, after he had been fiued £2 2s for landing in the country -vntho'ut permission. The Home Secretfary's deeision r.equiries him to report monthly to the alien lauthorities, and generally to cornply with the regulations. Cook, a surgieal hootmaker hy trade, h'as lived in Hull f'or about 36 years, and his family has heen born in thie city, but about seven years ago he returned to Russia to investigate conditions there. He finally quitted that country as - a stowaway. A petition against his deportation was signed by 4000 people.! .
