BLACKBURN CUP REMAINS WITH GISBORNE CLUB. The telegraphic chess match between Rotorua (challengers) and Gisborne (holders) was finished on "Saturday night. Gisborne succeeded in retaining the cup by 6h points to 51 after a very interesting tussle. Although the inter-club match was one of 15 boards, the first 12 only counted for the cup. This was somewhat unfortunate for Rotorua, as on boards 13, 14 and 15 they scored 2 wins and a draw, making the total points for the match Rotorua, 8; Gisborne, 7, a result with which the local club should ,be very pleas'ed. The winners for Rotorua were Burton, Tibbitts, Vinall, Howe, C'lark, and Heley, and draws were gained by Andrews, Fraer, Kurney and Lenihan. During the supper adjournment the club captain, Mr. J. T. Burton, on behalf of the president of the club, Mr. A. E. Booth, who was unfortunately absent through sickness, thanked all those who had so ably assisted in making the match the success which' it undoubtedly was. He made special mention of the umpire, Mr. W. L. Richards, the scrutine'ers-, the stewards led by Mr. D. H. Edwards, and the telepgraph operators.
