SLUMP COMPLEX NOT NOTICEABLE IN BRITAIN AMERICA HOPEFUL

Wellington, Monday. A through passenger hy the Maunganui to Sydney from San Francisco is Sir Robert Garran of Sydney, who presided over the tribunal set up in London to advise the British Government on certain questions regarding the apportionment of defence expenditure for India. Sir Robert who recently retired ,from the position of Solicitor-General -to the Comomnwealth Government, i made a tour of England after the tribunal had made its report. He said the depression complex seemed al- , most to have disappeared. On the other hand America was still feeling very seriously the effects of the de\pression, but the people have. great hiopes for the future under President ■Roosevelt's regime.
