MAN AGAINST WOMAN
JACK HOLT STARRING IN HIS BEST ROLE. LILLIA'N MILES' FHiST. "Man Agaiinst Woman" brings Jack Holt to the screen of the Majestic Theatre on Saturday, July 1, for his 165th feature picture in fifteen years as a screen star, In a characterisation that presents this man in a role that women will love — he is a romantie hero. It would have been difficult to find a more colourful 'setting to follow Holt's last 'box-office success, "This Sporting Age," than the shimmer of New York's and Bermudas night life and the dntricate web of cosmopolitan police life that is the background for "Man Against Woman." Holt plays the role of Strong-Arm Johnny McCloud — just the liame of the character — is a complete description of hdm. He is a detective — "Strong-Arm" is right; he sloughs his way through criminals and into the arms of a igdrl who doesn't know what to make of his modern-day cavemanism. "Man Agaiinst Woman" also marks initial appearance on the screen of a p-latinum blonde torch singer whom Columbia ofiicials feel has more potential starring material in th'e deep vibrant quality of her voice than most newcomers have in the'r entire make.up. She is Ldllian Miles, who was discovered in a Holly wood night club emulating Ethel Merman, and immediately signed for the leading feminine role opposiite Holt. For years Holt has won popular favour that continues growing by consistently fine performances, no matter what kind of story or what different character s be was called upon to play.
