In pursuance of the Govprnment's endeavons to. stop,. the illegal export of silver c.oihs,. a. thorough search of the liner, Tamaroa, was made to-day by about 40 members of the police force. It is stated, however, that they 'failed to find any silver coin aboard the ve.ssel. The Tamaroa is due to leave at. 7 a.m, to-moa,'row for Southampton • and London, and the search was carried out before the passengers were aboard. Police searches of the inter-colon-ial vessels, Wanganella and Marama bave been carried out but the Tamaroa i$ the first home liner to be ! search.ed. It is commonly reported that about £5000 in silver Coin was- taken home ■by passengers of one liner a few .months ago, while in many caseS the quantity taken has run into many hundreds of pounds.
