WASHING A "WASH-OUT" No longer, on a fine day, will you be able to see the white cliffs of Calais and the white linen of the residents of Hythe at the same time! For thou'gh the ' cliffs will. be there and also, with luck, the fine day, the washdng w-ill not! Hythe is proud of its reputation as a seaside resort, and means to keep it, even if townspeople have to sacrifice their custom of hanginjg out their washing on the promenade. So the Town Councillors have decreed that when the; warm summer breezes fan Hythe's shores, they shall not fan Hythe's lingerie on the promenade. Aceordingly, occupiers of houses on the front haVe received a request to that effect. Hythe's councillors prefer the washiing to be taken away rather than that their visitors should go away. , - . ...
