SONG AND STORY
PLEASANT (EVENING SPENT IN CHEERFUL COMPANY ROTORUA ORPHANS Song and Story whiled away a pleasant evening, in the second night of the Rotorua Orpbans' club session for 1933 and with the quips and yams of Bro. W. Harris in, the ehair, the time passed happily. The orchestra, under the baton of Bro. Heley was in good f orm and its selections met with the hearty approval of a good attendance. Community singing was a feature of the evening and led by Bro. Harris plantation. melodies exercised the lungs of- the. brethren. A popular item was that of Bro. Elliot 0f the Auckland Orphans' Club whose tenor solos were much to the taste of the gathering. Bro. Elliot will perhaps be rememhered by many as one of the original "Diggers" who after strenuoufe times in Franee, toured New Zealand and Australia so successfully under Pat Hanna. The programme was as follows: — Orchestral selections, "The Bohenrian Girl," followed hy the Rotorua Orphans' Chorus; song braeket, Bro. F. Jones "Fill the Cup" and "No Rose in All the World"; song braeket, Bro. Elliot (Auckland), "Star of my Heaven" and "Sally Horner" ; community singing led hy Bro. Lf E. Andrews; .orchestral selection "The Geisha" and followed by community singing led by Bro. Harris with his concertina; Orphans chorus "A Little Sunshine." Bro. Newmarch gave two excellent monologues Th'e Plumbar's Story" and a .selection from, "Marmion" which were rendered,, with fire and skill and Bro. Dixon gave two very well modulated cornet s&los "The Sunshine of Your Smile" and "Se^newhere a yoccei is Calling" which were very popular. Bro. Jones, wl\q first put himself on. good tehms with his audience with a couple of new anecdotes, then sang "A little Irish Girl,v "Talce Thnu This Rose" and "Invictus." . v The National Anthem eoncluded; a most ,'enjoyahle evening and Orphans generally are looking forward to further prograjhmes, ■ .
