Wellington, Thursday. About 90 wool growers from all parts qf the North Island, and a few from the South Island, attended a meeting of sheep farmers at Wellington, -Convened to consider a scheme for imprqving wool." production and i marketing, ..which was the outcome of a meeting held at Palmerston North on May 26. A scheme which emb.odies the imposition qf a levy of threepence a hale. to meet the cost of putting improved machinery into operation was approved and carried by an overwhelming majority. An uncompromising opposition was advanced by. representatives of stock and station companies to any compulsion or Government interference in the scheme.. Mr. W. ^T. Polson, M.P.j urged that the powers of the Meat Board should be extended and the scheme undertaken by that board instead of setting up a new organisation. He hinted at opposition in Parliament to the institution of the levy. A strong protest was made against shipping charges for wool as against those for other freight. The functions of the administrative body, as outlined, provide for instruction to farmers, elimination of scrub sires, research work, preparation of clips for sale, freights on wool and cpntact with other bodies. It was decided to set up an electoral college with representation on the basis of^ one representative to every 750,000 sheep. The election of the college. resulted: — Auckland: A. E. Harding (Dargaville), T. R. Seddon (Hamilton), H. E. Worsy (Whangarei), and H. E. Nolan (Papatoetoe). Gisborne: E. R. Black, C. H. Williams ai^l H. G. Smith. Hawkes Bay: F. N. H.
