The Gov«rnment meteoroloplst ise.ued the floUowing weather report and forecast laet niffht:— General STtuation: A cyclone is now centered north of Cape Maria van Dieman, while a'n anti-cycrone is lcicated east of the South Island. A slight low pressure wave is passing in the far south. Forecast:- Winds southerly to easterly, north of Westport and Kaikoura strong to gale force in parts of the far north and north-east, elsewhere moderate,~But increasing and variabie south of Westport and Kaikoura, with 'northerly to westerly winds predominating. Weather: Cloudy to overcast in the east and northern districts of the North Island, rain north of Auckland and Napier, and extending south, more especially on the east coast, some heavy falls between Hawkes Bay and the Bay of Ple'nty. A few light showers also aboyt Foveaux Strait, otherwise fair to fine, temperatures cold'with some fogs and hard frosts in the South Island Following are the barpmetTr maxlrmim and minimum thermometer, sunshine, and rainfall rea'dings recorded at the Government Obse.rvation Station by the Rotorua Tourist Department for the 24 hours ended at 9.30 a.m. yesterday.
