RANGIURU BEAT PAPAMOA IN CLOSELY FOUGHT GAME HUIMAI LEAYE COMPETITION

The second round of the Te Puke inter-club football competition was continued at Rugby Park on Saturday. By defeating Papamoa, Rangiuru have increased their lead in the competition, the positions of the teams now being: Rangiuru 9, United 7, Papamoa 6, and Huimai 2. The latter club has now definitely withdrawn from the competition, and its most prominent players have. been fairly equally divided between the Rangiuru and Papamoa clubs. Junior Games United (20) defeated Rangiuru (3). For the winners, Godber again added the majority of points scored for his side, being responsible for one try, one potted goal, and two conversions. Butcher, Fountain and Cooney also scored for United, while Rangiuru's try was the result of a scramble among the forwards. Mr. E. Morton was referee. Stars and Huimai drew, 3 all. McCullough kicked a penalty goal for Stars and Nihau scored for Huimai. Mr. Keleher was referee. Rangiuru v. Papamoa Rangiuru held the advantage throughout the first spell, halftime being called with the score 6 to nil in their favour. Heta Ngaki and Tai Raymond scored the two tries, . which were unconverted. After halftime Papamoa made strenuous efforts to break through, but the Rangiuru defence was equal to the occasion. Rangiuru increased their lead early in the second half, when Beazley crossed the line after a forward rush. Rangiuru 9, Papamoa nil. The Papamoa forwards then broke through, Whiteside scoring. Rangiuru 9, Papamoa 3. Shortly before the call of time, the Papamoa forwards again took charge, and McNaughton secured near the halfway line to run through and score under the posts. He converted his own try. Rangiuru 9, Papamoa 8. The last few minutes of the game were exciting, with Papamoa trying hard to break through, but determined defence by Rangiuru lcept the score unaltered for the rest of the game. Mr. C. Montgomery was referee.
