A highly important dfevelopment in connection •with the proposal .to £Oristruct a bridge across tbe Waitemata Harbour is announced. •This, according to tbe bridge company, will make an early start with the ubdertaking assured. The directors to-day . announced that they have received advice from England that £1,500,000 is ready and available to build .the bridge, provid- [ ed certain financial details are settled j Iocally. During the past few days j these details . have been adjusted as j far as New Zealand is concerned. All that remains is for these details to be finalised in London to-day, with that end in view. The directors also recorded their appreciation of th'e services of Mr. A. Harris, M.P.-, in negotiating in Wellington for such conditions as are necessary to enable. the company to take advantage of the offer. It has been estimated that the bridge will provide work for 400 me'n for three years, apart from the indirect benefits.
