Innes, N.Z.P.S., made a thorough inspection of a number of sites in the Hemo Gorge and Atiamuri Road area with the object of finding a suitable place for a machine gun and rifle range. Cleanmg Chimneys There is considerable speculation in the Rotorua and Bay of Plenty areas in connection with a certain chimney cleaning preparation which has been sold from door to door by two itinerant salesman. It is claimed that the paekages containing this preparation, when placed on a hot fire, give off certain chemicals which transform the soot into light flakes which are drawn out of the chimney by the draught. Careful instructions are a-iven that wrannings surround-

ing the preparation are not to be removed. One or two venturesome souls, however, have removed them and have found that the contents very closely resemble a sheet of zinc. It is possible, however, that these sheets do possess the properties attributed to them.
