Work of compieting the approach ;at : George, Street will, be gp,ne on,( with ; ,as soon as the_ Hinemoa Street bridge ; work, and formation of approaches, . etc.,, hash'heen^., completed. , There is ; quite a large amqunt of filling to be put in to bring the road up to the ; deck level.'-. -This work will be completed in the-next week or so. Th'e football sea.son also .fncurs.extra.duty as regards traffic. , In. cpnnection with. drivers' ? l'icqnses, there are- still a fair-numijer to he renewed, and.so far I have taken no action to see.wh'o are -still unlicen-. ■ sed. However',. as it is now ten days . since the expiration - of the licenses, I will -give -'the- matter my attention -in the near future,* as persons now using. last year's driying! licenses are carrying no insurance of any forrh. As regards -the renewinig of-- heavy traffic licenses, all . vehicles .-.epgagqd in the borough with the .exception of two have now been relicensed for heavy traffic, th'e two mentioned are receiving my attention, . -- m- ; . ."During entertaiinments in the. King Street Hall, J have noticed that the. ' drivers of a number of cars are in the habit of par king their cars in James. 4f Street and rather too - close to the Kiong Street intersection, thereby leaving too little. room for cars turning into Jamep, .Street qr. from James Street. I would respectfully. suggest thaf the- council.. place a notice in James Street -prohibiting parking within a certain distance- of King St. and then to prosecute pffenders. Itinerant Traders. On the recommendation of the Finance committee regarding a communication from the Whakatane Retailers' Association. r&lating to the activitie? of.hawlters and the .licensing of itinerant traders, it was decided that the staff be instructed to enforce the bylaw relating td hawkerp, and that th'e hy-law relating to itinerant traders be ■amended .at a near .date tq ;provide for the charging of the maximum fee, £5. ■ Inspection of - Footpaths. . - • The chairman of the works commit'tee, Cr. F., B. Cutl.er, repprted .that: Cr. Shapley had drawn the attention of the, committed to the - condition ofexisting footpaths and the need for furthei footpath construction in James Road a,nd,-..Yi.ctoria Avenue, and that the committee- had resolved that a general inspection of the ropds and footpaths throughout the town be made: ' * • ' * ' *•' '•
