The statement that the Government will be able to devote £3,000,000 to the prosecntion of public works this year will create a great deal of satisfac- ; tion, and it is to be devoutly hoped that a programme of judicious expenditure will be launched without delay. But it would appear from the information supplibd b'y our Wellington !represent'ative that the money is to be laTgely d'evoted to the erection of public buildings. The Wellington railway sta.tion and the Dunedin post office are.mentibned as probable undert'akings ahd th6re will be a decidbd' difference of opinion as to whether or not these buildings are necessary at a .time wheii money is so urgently needed for other things.
