DUNEDIN PROPOSAL FOR A £70,000 LOAN

Dunedin, Thursday. At the meeting of the Dunedin City ! Council last night, the Mayor, the Rev. E. T. Cox, suggested a loan of , £70,000 for use this year to provide materials for permanent works and increasing unemployed wages. He said they were now spending £130,000 annually with little permanent result. Additional wages constituted an urgent question for lacking necessities, people became bitter and an adequate wage was an irisurance against disorder. The Mayor's proposals which suggested the works to be undertaken j were 'referred to the Finance Committee.
