Hastings, Sunday. The flood conditions took a serious l turn at 10.45 to-night when the Tuk tikuri River brolte hoth banks at ^Meeanee. The v/ater is backing up badly there. The Puketapu flats are covered with water and it is reported that conditions are worse than ever known. Settlers have all shifted their stock »to higher land. The extent of stock losses that may have occurred is not yet known. It is still raining heavily throughout the district, and it was not possible to ascertain by midnight the extent to which the water had covered the surrounding district, or the resultant damage to houses and other property. There is two feet of water at the river bend on the road near Meeanee.
