GREAT EXPOSITION IS OPENED IN CHICAGO Rec. May 28, 5.5 p.m. Chicago, May 27. The Postmaster-General Mr. Farley, acting for Mr. Roosevelt, who is detained at Washington due to press of official business, to-day officially opened the Chicago World Fair, or "The Century of Progress Exposition," commemorating 100 years of ' city history. Elaborate buildings have been built on several hundred acres of reclaimed land alongside Lake Michigan, at an expenditure of 27,000,000 dollars. In addition to exhibits sbowing commercial and industrial growth of the city, there are buildings representing every foreign nation.
