PARKING AREA CHANGED FOLLOWING RE'CENT ACCIDENT Arising out of the recent accident to a child, Irene Home, in Maine Street, the Opotiki Borough Cohncil on Tuesday evening deeided to alter the present parking area in "that fstrbet. \ . The clerk asked the mayor's per/mission to bring up the question. He ' advised ' that he had measured • tHe ' fbad and found tHat if tHe courieil altered the parking area from the Centre of the road to the sidesj it would be possible to pai'k even more cars tban at present and still- leave- • all crossings open. . . * Cr. Anderson spoke in favour bf ;the alteration. ' -... Cr. Short suggested that the clerk « • should interview the occupiers of tHe • sections on either side of the roadand enquire of they had any objections. Cr. Shalfoon recahed that the ' Rouncil had practically ♦ agreed 'to such a suggestiori some time ago, brit Had allowed the matter to drop "as portion 'of the road was at that time /unmetalled. As the whole road was now metalled, "however, he saw no reason why the change should ribt be made. _ was resolved to alter the parking area aceopdingly.
