COUNTRY DEFEATS HIGH SCHOOL OED BOYS The High School Old Boys v. ! Country game, played on the show erounds nri Saturflav nrovifled the
spectators with good, fast football and was, at times, full.of excitement. The first half was a stern struggle in which many promising back movements were smothered hy the hard and sure tackling'of the opposing forwards. Blay see-sawed from one goal line to 'the oth'er, both sides working hard to p'ierce their opponents' defence. Penplty kicks for infringements were frequent, but "kicking boots" seemed to be absent and neither side were able to register any score before half time. On resuming after the interval, the tedms were playing hard, spectacular football and although many times each.rgoal line was threatened, the ; taOklipg was still hard and certain. Evdiitually th'e -Country forwards carried,- play to the High School goal line whdre' one of -the hattlingj forwards was : awarded* ai ltry scdrh.d tieaf .the ; posts. The:- shot at goal -ifiissed ahd the High School players. were cheered : on b'y their supporters as th'eyi:came out for the half way kick. Futting
plenty of dash ■ into their -play, "High School carried ihe game to their opponents' twenty-five where, on many occasions, they made strenuous efforts td even'the scores. At last their chanee came— a Country player was offside in front of the posts near his twenty-five line and High - School made it three all with a good kick. Tlie last few minutes of play saw moiA hard fast football. 'Both teams were trying to make a win of it and were taking all sorts of risks to make the "game open. From a scrum near High School's twenty-five, the Country forwards h'ooked the .ball ar/d -after several players had handled, they scored their second try. Once again the kiek.missed and High School kicked off with a couple of minutes only to go and the score board reading 6-3 in Country's, favonr. Both teams , w!ere still putting plenty of dash into their play and it was, as yet, anybody's game. Just on time, High School were awarded a penalty kick near the halfway line and Fox attempted to pull the match out of the fire with a long range kick. His attempt was good, but unsueeessful and Country forced as time was ! called. j Country 6, High School 3. Mr. Parris was referee.
