Cars Collide dv Shoftly before 8 *o'clock on Saturday evening two sedan cars collided heavily on the intersection of Fenton and Hinemoa Streets. Fortunately as neither car was proceeding at any speed, no one was hurt, although one vehicle was seriously damaged, the running boai'd and mudguard being battered in and the axle appeared to he twisted.
Junior Branch, W.D.F.U. , The monthly •nieeting of ' the junior branch W.D.F.U. was held in Taneatua on Thursday last wifh a good 'attendanhe of members. The wofked ( iaprdn coihp'etitioh ma'de from a flour1 hag was won by Miss M'ary Wilson, Miss K:, Grace being placed 3econd. The wall competitihn was- won hy Miss Margaret Wilson. Supper was ^erved by Miss I. Noble and Miss R. Skiffington. Trust in Townspeople It is prohable that the "cldvisability of Rotorua applying for allocation of 'the ahnual Dominion la'dies' 'tournament will be considered hy the Roto- ■ rua Ladies' Hockey Association this evening. The mairi question to be considered in connection with the tourney will probably be the support 'so far accorded the assdciation in ;its recent appeal for financial sup'port and particularly billets, which the secretary reports, are still slightly short of the required total. However, he is optimistic that the public of Rotorua will adequately support this valuable attraction for the town, and that during the present week the '.offers forthcoming will enabl'e the association to make application for the tourney on the stipulated date, May 31.
Hunt Dance A thoroughly enjoyable evening's entertainment was provided by the Ngongotaha hunt committee on Friday evening last. The Ngongotaha hall was taxed to its utmost capacity to accommodate the large gatliering. BoAth old time and jazz dancing were indulged in and the items heartily applauded. The supper provided was a credit to the ladies of the committee and all the good things to eat were thoroughly relished. The musical side of the programme was attended to by the "Wonderland Band" who were thanked from the stage by the M.C., Mr. Alec Smith, for their meritorious performance. School Re-opens To-day. The primary schools in the Rotorua district will re-open for th'e second term this morning. The Rotorua High School will re-commence to-morrow morning. Bad Road Surface ^ Although considerable improvement ha.s been elfe.cted in the condition of the long straight stretch of road leading into Te Teko from the Rotorua side, the few miles nearer the Rotoma Gorge are still in a deplorable condition for a main road. Th'e foundation of the road is thickly overlaid with Tarawera ash which in places is lying almost a foot deep. In view of the improvement effected nearer Te Teko by the use of pumice, it should he possible to give a much better road surface on the other side of the gorge. Mourea Maori Injured
On Saturday evening a Maori named Newton Rotohiko was attend'ed at the King George V. Hospital for severe facial injuries, one eye being involved. It is understood that the iiijury was a. sequel to a football match at Mourea alid that Rotohiko was th'e referee. Cattle Escape The crew of a cattle lorry travelling on the Taneatua-Opotiki road on Saturday night was faced with a. difficult taslc when several of the beasts succeeded in clamhering over th'e railings round the truck ahd escaping. The task of rounding up the strays in the darkness and restoring them to the truclc was one of considerable difficulty. • Lodge Dance To-morr'ow At the Majestic Ballroom to-mor-row evening the Rangi Rebekah Lodge will commence a series of dances which in past year's have been very popular and enjoyable. In addition to dancing enthusiasts, card players will also be catered for and patrons provided with a light supper. To meet the times the committee have deeided upon a popular price of one shilling for admission.
