NO REASON TO IMAGINE ANY TROUBLE BREWING WiRONG IMPRESSION GIVEN
— By Telegraph — Copyright).
Wellington, Friday. When the secretary of the New Zealand Coal Mine Owners' Associaj tion, Mr. Bishop, returned from I Christchurch, a Press Assoeiation message from Auckland prognosticating trouble in the mines, was shown to him. ' Mr. Bishop said he felt sure the statement which was attrlbuted to Mr. W. D. Holgate, that trouble was brewing on the West Coast in connection with the coal mines agreement, arose from some misunderstanding. Work at all the mines belonging to members of the assoeiation wbo were parties to the agreement made with the miners in 1932, ds still being carried on under the terms of j that agreement, which ha.s expired. Some days ago the secretary of the Miners' District Couneil wrote suggesting that a conference be held qbout the end of this, month, at the same time as another conference already being arranged in connection with the engine d rivers' agreement, fpr the p'urp'ose of considering the terms of employment for a further peripd. There was not the slightest reason for tbe belief that any trouble is likely to arise of these disepssiqns, and he did not think Mr. Holgate had intended to convey the impression that any diffieulties were anbicipated.
