To-day marks another milestone in the progress of Roto-
rua and it rests with its own citizens whether it is q permanent mark of progress or a tqpi- • porary one to ;be overwhe^med by the tide .of sloth and-indiffer-ence. The Rotorua Trotting Club : is holding its inaugural trotting meeting on ,the Arawa Park course and it is dependent upon the attendanGe of .the public for its sqccess.., .Shoqld the, public of Rotorua and;- district respond to the efflor.ts of'^the enthusiasts who made. tHe-. rqeeting possible then the club will grow and Rotorua will have another means [ of attracting- , putside . public i within its iboupdS'.who *n turn , will .spread ; the ;good news to. others. It. inust -be .emphasised yet once again that every sport and pastime whjqb can be run successfully in Rotorua brings ' grist to the mill either directly or indirectly to everyone of its inhabitants no matter in what walk of life his or her- lines. are east. This is recognised in other centres and should be recognised here also. Given a fine day the public shoqld have a most interesting day's sport for .there is
a fascination about the trotting horse which cannot he described but is eertainly experienced when the helds are seen in, action. In every way, by the provision of good class liQrses, ,by the very modest price of admission, by the arrangements for the description of the races to be given by a loud-speaker and by the staging of ah. exhibitio'n pace by one of the best pacers in the Dominion the club has done its part. It remains for those who have the interests of Rotorua at heart to do .therrs.
