M'r., Hill has made ingeni-ous-use of the trees and surroundings of-. the section and has-m'erged 'a-big1 building into the landscape in such a manner a^ to make it attract attention,. fpr i:its- quipt , diignityy whereas, considerinjg th& .purpose for.' which; it was .buiit. and ..the. nec.essarily Btraight lipes and big floor space demanded, it may. ieasily .have,, became- blatantly a show building and nothing else. With
1 unlinnited money to play with, the arI chitect could. also have cqnceived a 1 very handsonie and luxurious edifice, | but. the show association in contemt plating building plans was compelled. t to consider, not pnly, the .outlay required, but the income-earning possibilities of the building. Consequently, . a definite limit had to be placed on the amount of money expended. Asg •a result, the architect' has designed" and the contractor has completed at a cost of £2539 a building which is a definite advance on many other structures'of ,a similar nature and one of which the town may feel justly proud. Conveniently Situated. Situated on the cornpr of • Fenton St. and Amohau St.. the building has ■a.. facade of concrete oarpi'ed out on plans designed to conceal the long straight lines of the rear portion. The main entrance ds .on the.corner and leads through a passage way to the main hall. Offices and dressingrooms branch ,off the main passage and the main hall itself is admirably designed for show purposes. At th'e back there is a very spacious twowa.y loading point for vehicles, and on the Amohau Street side the main hall leads out to the poultry section, where ample provision ds made for the housing and judging of entries. •The hall itself is solidly built of jj reinforced concrete made from 1 Wilson's N.Z. Portland cement, an'd has an excellent wooden dancing floor. The.roof is supported by a row of pillai^s, which are useful for show purpioses and also provide a me'ans w.herehly a generous amount of spa.ee may he partitioned off. right round j the hall for supper rooms or any a other special requdrements foi* big I social Junctions or receptions. I : The uses to which the building may | be put are many and varied and in I providing what is undoub'tedly an as- ! §et to ,-the whole town the, A. and P. I Association is deserving of the sup1 port df the ^ownspeople dn making the epterprise a success.
