CONDEMNED BY HOBBS
•GREYBEARD'S ORITICISM London, May 14. Mr. J. B. Hobbs, the well-known cricketer who accompanied the English team on their recent tour of Australia. as a newspaper correspondent, in his latest .article reiterates his dislike for body-line howling. He says. "As seen by me in Australia, more balls were pitched wide of the leg stpmp th'an on it. . "I deprecate greybeards arguing that they in their youth would have scored freely off body-line bowling'. I say definitely they would not have done so against Larwood in Australia, where it was not a question of good length halls rising quickly and hitting the thighs and ch'est of the batsmen. Such things do not happen on Australian wickets. Larwood had to pitch short and maintained such a length and speed that nothing could be done with him. "Bradman was even better than in England in 1930. He had more and better strokes. I doubt whether England would have won th.e ashes without resorting to body-line howling."
