JAPANESE WITHIN 40 MILES Rec. May 15, 8.10 p.m. Shanghai, May 15. The Japanese advance south of the Great Wall through Kupeikow Pass is causing considerable anxiety, lest it means that eventually the Japanese intend to capture Peking, The Japanese are now advancing on to Minyun on the Kupeikow Road, 40 miles from Peking, which is now hurriedly being thrown into posture of defence, sand bag barricades being erected in the princiyial loeations of the city. At Nanteinmeji the Chinese fortification have been completely obliterated by artillery fire.
