Rec. May 14, 7 p.m. Shanghai, May 13. The Chinese admit that under cover of brisk artillery fire, the Japanese forced a crossing of the Luan-ho iRiver between Luleng and Shienan. Fierce fighting is now proceeding on r the western bank of the river. As the result of the recent visit hy a Japanese aeroplane, scattering leaflets, the Chinese are leaving Peking in thousands for Tsientsin, espeeially the wealthier classes. Chiiiese newspapers are bitterly commeriting on their lack of eourage.
