BLAZING LORRY'S DASH
FINDS POND FROZEN A blazing lorry was driven for a mile at high speed recently in an endeavour by the driver to run it to a pond to extinguish the flames. The lorry, laden with corn, caught fire near Rothwell, Northamptonshire, and th'e driver, Mr. Edgar^darlow, of Rothwell, endured the heat of the flames as it raced along the road. Drivers of other vehicles dodged out of the way as the burning mass bore down on them. Mr. Marlow's pluck was in vain. He found the pond thiekly frozen over, and by th'e time he had hacked through the ice to the water, the lorry which was owned by the Central Corn and Coal Company, of Rothwell, was a smouldering wreck.
