RISING IN SPAIN BOMB OUTRAGES AND RIOTS IN STREETS OF MADRID BIG STRIKE COLLAPSES

' A general strike heginning at midnight, aiming at the overthrow of the Government, in conjunction with .the rising of the army, resulted in a ' serious disorders throughout the country. During a eollision between the police and Reds at Madrid, a woman produced a bomb from her basket and hurled it at the combatants, killing a policeman and a Red and wounding five ineluding herself. A bomb exploded in a tramway depot and injured five. Six were killed and many injured in fighting in the provinces. The strike failed in Barcelona, and was only partly successful in Madrid. The Government's promptitude in arresting hundreds of suspects, ineluding twelve staff officers last night prevented the staging of a coup d' etat. Twenty bomb explosions occurredin the eourse of the day. The electric cable and water mains were damaged. Many rioters were arrested.
