UNITED BEATS PAPAMOA IN INTERESTING GAME

Two further matehes in the first round of the inter-club competitions were played at Rugby Park on Saturday. United met Papamoa on No. 1 ground, where an exciting match resulted in a win for the town team by 22-9. The score indicates a rather easy victory for United, but this was not the case, for Papamoa were leading by 9 points to 3 right up to within twenty minutes of the end of the game, when the United backs took charge and completely reversed the position. For Papamoa, tries were scored by McNaughton, Jensen, and D. Robertson. United's score included two penialty goals by Arthur, and tries by Shearer (2), Whitburn and Rolfe. Arthur and W. Tanner converted one each'. The game was controlled by Mr. C. Walker, and the teams were as follows: — United: Williams, Whitburn, Farm,er, Shearer, Arthur, Haslam, Dunlop, W. Tanner, Hayward, B'lackwell, Wilkins, Rolfe, Barker, Joyce and Redfern. Papamoa: W. Leach, Chapman, McKenzie, Robertson, Kirk, Potaka, Palmer, Wickliffe, Whifcbside, Kingi, Simmonds, Donovan, Pile, McNaughton and Jensen. On the No. 2 Ground, 'Huimai had •a surprise win over the Rangiuru team which drew with United last Saturday. The score was 11-9. Mr. S. Heather was referee. Junior results: — Huimai (8) defeated Rangiuru (nil). United and Star drew, 11 all.
