Wellington, Monday. A young Englishman, who recently 'came from Palmerston North seeking work on the waterfront, was subject of a brutal attack by six men i near the Central Post Office to-day. j A large number was about at the I . time, but none gave assistance until 1 the attack ers dispersed. , It is believed the objeet of ^ the j ,1 attack is connected with the shipping i dispute. The victim of the assault ; 'was walking across the street when the gang stopped him asking his : business. Receiving no answer, they | threateningly called him a scab.. One struck him and as he stepped ■ back another struck him from the s rear and then knocked him to the ground where he was brutally kicked. ' When the attackers dispersed the
'victim was taken to his lodging at The Y.M.G.A. where his bruises were attended to. Later he recovered sufficiently to return home to Palmerston North.
