— By Telegraph — Copyright).
Auckland, Monday. The terms of settlement under twhich it is expected the men in the four Waikato coal mines which have i been idle since April 18, will return to work, were agreed to to-day at a conference between representatives o'f the mine - owners and the miners. ' Settlement is based upon the un~ dertaking by the Renown Collieries :Ltd. to withdraw the notice. which had been posted in April, proposing to postporie payment of 20 per cent. 'of wages due to its men during the (continuance of the coal price "war." Following this, the men in the Renown jnine ceased, and those in the mines of Taupiri and Glen Afton, did the same in sympathy. Pukemiro and Wilton continued working. The following resolutions were adopted by all parties represented: (1) That it is agreed that the Renown Collieries will- at once withdraw its notice so that the mines will be open 'for work under the present agreement on Wednesday; (2) That the chairman will call a meeting of owners to be held not later than May 11 to consider trading conditions; (3) That-in future, the Renown Collieries undertake to give 14 days' notice to its miners of any proposal for a stoppage. The agreement made at the conference will be submitted to the miners at a series of meetings when a deeision will be made whether work is to be resumed on Wednesday.
