(Press. Assn.-

FOR AUSfRALIA NAME OF EARL OF ATHLONE MENTiONED IN ENGLAND SIR ISAAC ISAACS MAY RETIRE

— By Telegraph— Copyriglft).

(Rec. May 4.) London, May 3. The Bishop of Peterborough, writing in the Daily Telegraph, gives prominence to a report from Australia that Sir Isaac Isaacs may not comPlete his full term at Government HoUse, Canberra, and adds: "In the Jight of this knowledge I gather that a strong opinion. is forming in Australia in faYour of petitioning His Ma.jesty the King to nominate a member of the Royal family as his successor. "The name of the Earl of Athlone has been mentioned, and enquiries in London lead me to believe that the Earl is willing, if the request is made, to accept. "In that event Australia would be the subject of congratulation and not t a little of the envy of all parts of the Empire." The Rt. Hon. Earl of Athlone is a brother of Queen Mary, and is 58 years of agn. He married Princess Alice of Albany, in 1904. He was Governor-General of South Africa from 1923-30.
