PENNY SOCIAL
SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. The Penny Soeial organised hy St. John's Ladies' Guild to launch their scheme to raise a "mile of pennies," resulted in a most successful gathering, 37 yards of pennies heing: received to start the mile. Pianoforte solos by Mrs. Green and songs hy Mr. . Wilbert Marks were much enjoyed. The 'games and comp'etiti^pfjwere managed by members of th%; Senior Girls' Bible Class. The attraction ; of the evening was a sideshow, "The Wsonderfu.1 Wassais,"' wjhJieh caused much amusement and drew great crowds throughout the evening, as did the "Housemaids' Tenp|§" and "Diving." The competition winners wel'e as follows: — "Mary Anne," Mrs. Green; "Name of Town," Mrs. Jones; "Fishing," Miss W. Steele; Highland Golf," Miss Joyce Geddes. The ladies in eharge of the coffee stall did good business with coffee, ( tea and refreshments at on©^, penny j each. j
