SEASON OFENED ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY HOLDS FIRST RECITAL. ENJOY ABLE PRO GRAMME.

There was a large and interested audience at the iRegent Tbeatre on Tuesday evening, when the Opotiki Orchestral Society held the first concert of th'e 193-3 season. A very entertaining programme was given, Miss Letty Parkinson being accompanist throughout and Mr. lan J. Thompson the conduetor. .The followingi dtems composed the programme: — Selection, Airs from the opera "Rustic Chivalry" (Mascagni), encored; soprano solo, "Soul of Mine" (Ethel Barnes), hy Mrs. Duff; violin solo, "Andante -and Allegro," conectro fo'r violin and piano (Seitz), hy Mr. K. Cohen, encored; overture, "Pique Dame" (Franz von Suppe); baritone solo, selected, Mr. J. Young, encored; clarionet solo, "Regrets d'Amour," hy Mr. A. Shaw, with' orchestral accompaniment, encored; march and intermezzo, "Colonel Bogey," (Alford), extract from "Les Erinneyes" Massenet; piano solo, "Valse Brilliante," (Chopin), hy Miss L. Parkinson, F.T.C.L., L.A.B., L.L. C.M. (encored); ballet music, "The Dance of the Hours," from Ponchielli's opera "La Giaconda" (The Ballet Singer); contralto solo, "The Encahntress" (Balfe), by Miss Sampson (encored); violin solo, "hyre Kati" (Jeno Hutay) by Miss D. Wolfe, L.A.B. (encored twi'ee) ; waltz, "1001 Nights" (Strauss) (encored). The programme concluaed with the National Anthem.
